BATTING ESSENTIALS

CONCEPTS MODULE Overview

CONCEPTS are ESSENTIAL to a player understanding the techniques
Most coaches and coaching programs only focus on the technical aspects of batting. Players are rarely provided with information regarding the CONCEPTS that are essential to understanding the theory underpinning the techniques they are practicing. Yet this is a vital part of the coaching and learning process!
In this CONCEPTS MODULE, we discuss ...

SELF- CORRECTING
KNOWLEDGE OF CONCEPTS
SIMPLE & CONSISTENT LANGUAGE

SELF-CORRECTING
Effective coaching develops players who are technically proficient and are able to self-correct! Players can only self-correct if they have both the conceptual and technical knowledge that allows them to do so!
Over time, as players become familiar with the CONCEPTS and techniques, they will start to recognize (from their performance) instances when they have done well and recognize areas where performance can be improved. Over time and through this process, players eventually reach a point where they become self-correcting.

KNOWLEDGE OF CONCEPTS
KNOWLEDGE OF CONCEPTS provides beginning and developing players with the Fundamental Principles that underpin their learning – giving them an understanding of WHY they are doing what they do.
The CONCEPTS also help the player understand why something works and (just as importantly) why something doesn't work!

While learning the Essential Skills, players are introduced to the relevant CONCEPTS (outlined in this module) that will help to guide and underpin their learning, understanding and development.
SIMPLE & CONSISTENT Language
A knowledge of the CONCEPTS helps the coach and player to create a familiar ‘coaching language’ which greatly enhances the coaching process.
Creating a SIMPLE & CONSISTENT LANGUAGE between the player and the coach throughout the coaching process, greatly 'speeds up' the communication and feedback processes.
Allow for simple explanations to more complex Biomechanical Principles in a way that beginning players can understand and apply them.

Key points (written explanations for each)

Discussion (Audio)
SUMMARY
The 20 CONCEPTS are essential for the player's understanding of the principles behind the techniques they will be learning
While it seems like a lot of information for new players to absorb, each CONCEPT is quick to explain and is only delivered at the appropriate time in the coaching sequence
Establishing a consistent coaching language will greatly assist the communication and learning process for the player
The detailed LESSON PLANS module, in this program, will show you:

WHICH CONCEPT to introduce
