BATTING ESSENTIALS
TM
Cricket COACHING SYSTEM
This concept refers to the wrist position of the top hand during the back lift
A proper WRIST SET POSITION is important for adding bat speed (via the Wrist snap – refer next Concept) to attacking shots during the downswing phase
All players need to learn how to set the top wrist during the back lift phase of the bat swing
COACHING LANGUAGE:
LIFT THE BAT – SET THE WRIST

TOP HAND
If the top hand grip is correct and the top hand is controlling the back lift, then the top wrist will flex backwards slightly as the bat is lifted – I refer to this as the "WRIST SET POSITION".
PRACTICE
For many beginning players, the top wrist will be their non-dominant (and therefore weaker) hand.
Players need to practice lifting the bat with their top hand so they become strong enough for the top hand and wrist to set the bat.
WRIST SNAP
Once the wrist is set in the back lift, players will be able to unload the wrist (using a Wist snap) to put power into their shots during the downswing.
