FRONT FOOT STEP & TURN
00:00 / 00:36

STEP & TURN is the phrase I use to remind players of the footwork process for playing the Front Defence and the Front Drive.

STEP & TURN reminds the player to take a strong step while turning the toe towards the ball

The STEP & TURN movement of the front foot sets up the Hitting zone for front foot shots

STEP & TURN

Knees can only bend in the direction that our toes are facing! For a player to bend their knee towards the ball – as they step towards the ball, they need to turn their toe so that it also points towards the ball.

STABLE BASE

The STEP & TURN movement allows for a stable base of support to be established and for body weight to move into the shot via a bent free knee.

BALANCE

If the toe doesn't turn during the step, then the knee will be unable to bend towards the ball. This will force the player to bend at the waist, leading to overbalancing as the head moves forward of the front foot.
