The NUMBER '9' POSITION is the shape made by the arms and bat indicating correct technique during most shots.
The NUMBER '9' POSITION is particularly referred to when coaching the Back Defence and provides the player with a guide as to how the bat should finish the shot



The phrases for the Back Defence are (in order):

The arms form the head of the '9' – the bat forms the tail of the '9'.
VERTICAL & HORIZONTAL
The NUMBER '9' POSITION can be vertical as in the Back Defence, Front Defence and Front Drive or horizontal during parts of the Cut Shot and Pull Shot.
TECHNIQUE
A strong NUMBER '9' POSITION indicates a high front elbow, the top hand has controlled the bat swing and the bottom hand and arm has remained correctly positioned behind the bat blade.
