BATTING ESSENTIALS
TM
Cricket COACHING SYSTEM
The WRIST SNAP is the unloading of the wrist(s) from the set position.
It is the setting and snapping of the wrist(s) that provides the added bat acceleration at the end of a swing
Applies to both front foot and back foot shots
COACHING LANGUAGE:
LIFT THE BAT – SNAP THE WRISTS

LOSS OF POWER
If the wrist (or wrists) don't set properly in the back lift, then the player will only hit the ball using the speed of their arms only – I refer to this as an "arm swing". This will result in reduced bat speed and a loss of power.
TOP HAND
The role of the top hand is to put the power generated by the bottom hand through the ball. This is done by snapping the top wrist to and through the hitting zone.
ACCELERATION
It is the top wrist that allows the acceleration of the bat to the ball during the Cut Shot and Pull Shot.

One of the keys to ensuring the top wrist snaps properly, when playing a front drive, is to maintain a high front elbow at the point of impact.
