Front toe to shoelaces

FRONT TOE TO SHOELACES
00:00 / 00:26

Front foot to shoelaces reminds players about the placement of the front foot when completing the footwork for a Back Defence.

When playing the Back Defence, the movement of the front foot immediately follows the back and across movement made by the back foot

If the movement of the front foot has been performed correctly, the toe of the front foot will land approximately in line with the bottom of the shoelaces of the back foot

SIDE-ON

Players need to keep their hips and chest side-on to the ball when completing the front toe to shoelaces movement.

It is IMPORTANT for beginning players to practice moving their body side-on early in the development of their skills.

AVOID

Beginning players tend to take the toe back towards the leg-side, thereby opening the chest and hips – this puts the player in a front-on or open chested position which makes the player vulnerable against fast rising deliveries later on.

PRACTICE

To keep the chest and hips side-on to the ball, players need to practice moving the front foot parallel to the crease and NOT allow the toe and heel of the foot to rotate forward.
